New Year’s Resolutions! Try THIS if you keep breaking yours.

Who here has failed at more than one New Year’s Resolution attempt? I definitely have! I have my feet and hands up for this one. Research shows that of the 60% of us who make New Year’s resolutions, only 8% of us are successful.

New Year’s Resolutions on Day 1

Although they start of with all enthusiasm, determination and will, New Year’s Resolutions have a way of disappearing into time. It’s almost as though Life and Time conspire somewhere around the corner to slowly erase all will and excitement to make adjustments and even changes to our lives. Before you know it, by day 15 you’ve failed 10 times and the other 5 have been a real struggle.

The truth is, life is challenging enough with our busy lifestyles. Work, emails, cooking, cleaning, family, work, work, side hustle, more work, internet, social media. No wonder most New Year’s Resolutions are difficult to follow to completion. For many years I was stuck in the cycle of breaking my resolutions and breaking them fast.

Here’s an idea for you this year right. Why not make life a lot easier for ourselves by doing the doable? Wouldn’t it be awesome to just Focus on Just One New Year’s Resolution for 2020?

‘But I only get one thing done!’, I hear you moan. ‘I want to do it All Now.’

The problem with the time we live now is that everyone want everything done now. We want to lose all the weight now. We want to make money now. We even want the hair to grow now. We live in a society where Now is more important than longevity without realising that in an effort to get things done now, we lose quality. OK let’s break it down.

Commit to one thing and one thing only, putting all your energy and focus into your ONE new year resolution. Put ALL YOUR EFFORTS into this one thing, Focus and do not allow anything else to to destruct you from achieving just this one thing.

It doesn’t have to be so complicated. I remember once I made a ‘Get Fit New Year’s Resolution’, complete with a detailed timetable for every day. My timetable was so detailed it was registering every day to day activity down to every 30 minutes of the day. Did I make it up to a month? Nope, Not even a week. There were too many things do! It was too complicated and I lost interest even before I started.

I discovered soon that if I commit to doing the one thing and one thing only, every single day towards my goal, I was more likely to succeed.  It doesn’t have to take 1 hour or a whole day to make a notable change in life.

For example if I wanted to put on more weight,  I will add just 5 more spoons to each of my meals. By the end of the day I have had another meal altogether, than trying to cook an entire fourth meal alone…that I definitely would have had no time to make. That’s all. 5 more spoons to every meal. Every day I just commit to this. All my efforts to make sure I do this one simple thing and the results will be there. By the end of the week I’ve had so much more food. As time goes I can choose to add 3 more spoons, to make them 8 . I’m still doing the same thing.. Having 3 meals… just a bit more food.

The same would apply to exercise. 10 minutes everyday at home… I may change the speed, the weights as I adjust, but I am using only 10 minutes, applied every single day. Once you have mastered this, go right ahead and adjust to 12 minutes. What a huge difference such a short amount of time can make to your life, compared to  what I used to try to do.

Want to start a business? Start now! Don’t have time? Take 10 minutes out of your day, every day, without fail. You will not fail!

I used to go to the gym after work and sometimes straight from home.. 1 hour getting ready to go the gym from home or feeling exhausted already.. go straight after work. 1 hour trying to get into the swing of things, 15 minutes trying to deter ‘friends’ and up to 30 mins cool down and leave. Once home, will you have time to shower, make dinner, clean up? Hmmm… as many would say, ‘Ain’t Nobody Got Time For That!’ I prefer 10 minutes added to my daily routine before my shower, and those 10 minutes have made an incredible difference to my life.
